The film city of god is based around the life within a slum in brazil. The film is open about all of the negative activity that happens within the slum. The reason for this is that it helps to get the message across about how life withint the slums is extremely unplessent and how no one would really want to have this life style where everyday your on edge in fear for your life, not knowing if you will even make it to the end of the day alive. the films shows us that all characters have to live though this fear even the children. The film has alot of impact through showing the shocking points of the slum for example the fact that most of these children want to be involved with the violence of the slum, and those few that want to leave get drawn into the violence and die.
the film starts of begins in the 60's when the main characters are quite young then quickly skips forward ten years to the 70's with the main characters now adults where the film slows down again to give you a chance to catch up the film often refrences back in time to explain the reasoning behind certain characters.
