The film Persepolis expresses power poverty and conflict differently to the previous films that we have watched as it has been done in a cartoon format as they have tried to illustrate their views using mild humour. However in my opinion the use of humour and animation has not helped to illustrate the points of power poverty and conflict. this is because the use of animation and humour draws you away from the situations that are being dealt with within the film.
The film starts in present day then is very quickly thrown into the past. This introduces the main character as they are now however then shows us everything she has been through in order to get where she is now. by doing this it helps us as the audience sympathise with the character as you know what she has been through.
The use of the past being illustrated in black and white helps in two contexts as it lets us know it isn't set in the present day in real life or in film time as well as this it enhances the impact of any severe event that has happened in the main characters life.
